Prepared in conjunction with the Folger’s 70th anniversary, this book presents the library’s history, public programs, and highlights from the collection.

  • Section opener discussing the Folger’s buildings and garden features the “Seven Ages of Man” stained glass window.
  • Most of the book is devoted to treasures from the Folger’s collection including the 1483 “Biblia Germanica” shown here.
  • Spread features a map from a 1513 printing of Ptolemy’s “Geography.” A detail is used on the cover.
  • A detail of a hand-colored print shows Marie de Médici’s visit to Cheapside London in 1639.
  • A beautifully illustrated volume of Shakespeare’s “Songs and Sonnets” was created in 1926 by Alberto Sangorski.
